The New McCarthyism: Oregon Tea Partiers invade quiet MoveOn picnic, break it up with threats -- and boast about it

Probably the most disturbing aspect of the multifarious effects of Fox News' right-wing propaganda machine and its Tea Party offspring is the way it has utterly taken over the lives of so many senior citizens, who lap up every word as the gospel truth and have become increasingly radicalized by talking heads like Glenn Beck.

Even as they project their own intentions onto the likes of the unions, the Fox acolytes and the Tea Partiers have effectively become a brownshirt corps of mean-spirited, vicious thugs. It's deeply disturbing to watch people in our parents' generation viciously attacking liberals with increasing venom and violence.

The latest example took place last weekend in the quiet little retirement town of Roseburg, Oregon. It's a pretty little burg on the I-5 corridor in western Oregon that is mostly populated with senior citizens of various stripes. Via Carla at Blue Oregon, we happened upon this story in the local paper.

Pigs. I would not have left the park, I would have called the cops. You just had to know that rat bastards wold follow those folks home. Seriously....when will these mental midgets learn the definition of communism and soshulizm...yeah, no wonder they can't find it on the "internets", probably can't spell it either. I live in Southern Oregon....heaven help them if they ever bother me!

I would have called the cops too. But I think the MoveOn group did the right thing too because you never know if one in the group is just waiting for a confrontation to start something. Judging from what happened in Norway this week, we know it's possible. These people won't go away peacefully if provoked. They're like angry hornets. Dumb angry hornets.

Roseburg is stuck in the past. A few years ago Douglas Co replaced their aging microwave ring with modern equipment, and I went down to train the maintenance techs. None of them had a computer at home, and only one had a basic knowledge of how to use a laptop. I tried to tell them that the new screwdriver comes with a display and a qwerty keyboard - that they were going to have to embrace this technology because that is the direction everything is going. Nope. They didn't want to hear it. Didn't want to learn it. The training ended up taking many sessions over the next couple years (with lots of phone support) as I threw mud against the wall watching the stain gradually get bigger over time.

I don't know what the laws are regarding one group of private citizens disrupting another private gathering at a public park. Probably falls under civil disorder code, and might not be specifically addressed. But, since one of the group is a semi-public figure, he is fair game. I'd make sure any gathering he holds gets a taste of his own medicine.

When your own victory video is incriminating evidence - maybe it's time to for a little rethink.

Wow, I'm surprised not to be hearing about this yet. Listening to Carl now and the only TP stuff he has hit on is the blogger connection with the Norwegian terrorist.

The Wu story also seems to be trumping a lot of news right now.
