I'm shopping for an E-Reader

I have read Top Ten Reviews and they say the Amazon Kindle is the standard to gauge all the others. From what they say, I like the Kindle best but it can only download from Amazon, no Google Books, and no books from other sellers. I don't like that.

If anyone has any info or preferences I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

Are you looking for something to read to you, or for you to read as books only in electronic format?

I can't read for long on an LCD without eye fatigue. That's why I want the E-book. I want the E-ink pages with my choice of shades of grey. I also want adjustable font size.

I think I'm going for the Nook.

I've been thinking about getting one and several of my friends have given good reviews on The Kindle. Besides, I buy most of my books from Amazon. Sorry, but right now saving money is essential to my buying anything beyond household supplies. B&N have an awesome store, but they make you pay to get their discount and I still find that offensive (and out of my league right now).

My understanding is that third party books can be sent to amazon online and they'll convert it to "Kindle ready" for free or virtually so. But I haven't looked into this since shortly after Kindle was announced.

I'll have to look in to that.

I wish I knew someone who owns a Kindle so I could actually hold it and read from it.

My friend loves it and she is an avid reader and has had the Kindle for about 3 months now. She has the new one that can "read to her" and she listens to her books driving to work. I believe she said she can download newspapers and magazines too.

I have both the Kindle and Nook app on my Droid 2 and have used both and enjoy them. I compare prices between Amazon and B&N and buy the cheapest.

I know at least two CWV, let me ask them whatever you'd like to know. Can't hurt, you can still get the Nook if you'd rather. I say where ever you usually shop is where you should probably look.

That worked for me, my sister came to visit, and she had one. By the fifteen minuet mark, I had the knack of using it down, and I was getting along fine, then the first hand cramp set in from holding it.

It's a hard sucker to hold, heavy and thin, slippery and the edges are bull-nosed to reduce grip. It's like they want them dropped so they'll be broken more often.

I looked at a bunch of them on Google images, all sorts of makes and sizes, I see this same problem with all of them, except this Sony. It has that grove along the left side, that's to hook your thumb into, I could maybe hold on to that thing for a couple of hours without cramps setting in and having it slip from my hands when they did.

I'd want to try it at a store where they would let me to set and try it out for about a half hour. Like they do with books at Barns and Noble.
