Peoria Bishop Compared Obama To Hitler And Stalin And Urged Catholics To Bloc Vote In November
April 19, 2012
The Internal Revenue Service should investigate the Catholic Diocese of Peoria for illegal electioneering after Bishop Daniel R. Jenky compared Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin as part of an election-year appeal, says Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Americans United today filed a formal complaint with the IRS over Jenky’s intervention in the presidential campaign. Federal law prohibits churches and other tax-exempt nonprofits from endorsing or opposing candidates, said AU, and the bishop’s April 14 sermon amounts to an order to vote against Obama.

“Bishop Jenky’s intervention in the election wasn’t just extreme and mean-spirited, it also seems to be a clear violation of federal law,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director. “Churches are tax-exempt institutions, and they aren’t allowed to intervene in partisan politics.”

At first this story really bothered me, and I was inclined to just ignore anything the Bishop said. But then it occurred to me, given the Catholic Church's record of assistance and appeasement with the Nazis and Hitler, perhaps they really ARE the best-informed to be making such comparisons today.

Hey, it's just another religious nut siding with the Republicans in hopes of snaring a spot on the ground floor with the new American Taliban.

oy vey.... how can you compare Obama to Hitler?! Anyone who has an education and says that is an idiot. I am deeply disappointed in this official... his comments are insensitive. Also, from a Catholic perspective, like Mitt Romney will be any better?!

Look up his quotes on youtube. He is more pro abortion and gay marriage than Obama... its just that he is willing to say & do whatever in order to get elected. But like Reagan and the Bush family, Romney will turn his back on Christian voters once elected (which seems to be standard). At least Obama says what he feels and you know where he stands. And Romney would be an absolute disaster for the poor of this nation. Everyone knows it is has been the ultimate goal of the Republican Party to destroy Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, etc.
Things that Americans now depend on...

I dont think that is accurate, I suppose if you go back some years it may be but what we now know is what Romney personally believes and how he would govern are entirely two different things

If the con bagger bigots told him that to get reelected he would have to turn Wyoming into a detention center for admitted Gay people, that is what he would do, I have simply no doubt about it.

He is a bigot, he is a bully, and ultimately the positions he would take make him a terrorist.

BTW, describing yourself as an Indie Dem, does that mean there is a chance you may not vote for Obama, either by going 3rd or not at all?

Might be referring to Romney having personal experience in the family as a motivator, but to say more pro-choice than Obama is a bit hyperbolic.

Yes, and the reality is, he appears to have no personal positions, other than a desire to make money and gain power. He's a twisted, evil version of Pat Paulson, who, as a joke, ran for President back in the 70s and every city he visited, he'd say things like, "You're my favorite city; you're not like those other crumby cities..." Romney was pro-choice because he was running in Massachusetts, no other reason.

And not to nitpick, but since independentDemocrat used pro-abortion then for those reading along at home let me point out that NOBODY should be pro-abortion. Nobody should want to have abortions or see abortions take place. Pro-choice makes much better sense because what the goal is is to have the option available for those instances in which it is necessary. Pro-abortion - without accusing anyone here of anything other than poor word choice - is the language of the anti-choice crowd who try to make it sound as if those supporting reproductive rights are looking for a way to go have sex and not be responsible until after the fact.

Yes, it's a hilarious term, really. "Pro-abortion" sounds like someone who would get pregnant on purpose...JUST so they could have the "joys" of an abortion.

No one is "pro-appendectomy" either. :)

I could be, if I get to decide who's getting one.

Hey! Jesus got to pick the next Roman Emperor (not really).

Separation of church and state has been a thorny problem since the early neolithic. Not much human progress has occurred on that cultural front-- still grunting in animal skins and running into the caves away from the lightning god....
