Tim Tebow upset over “My Jesus” t-shirts

The website’s attorney’s are saying that there isn’t ”any use of Mr. Tebow’s name and/or likeness.” They’ve already been removed from ebay after Tebow petitioned them to be removed.

The t-shirt makers sent an email back to Tebow’s attorneys saying the design ”shares nothing with Mr. Tebow except for promotion of a common Lord and Savior.”

This is really quite hilarious, as there's no indication that Tebow is even tangentially a potential "injured party" in this case. I can't see how he has any standing whatsoever. His name and likeness are nowhere on the shirt.

I suspect the Jets and or the NFL could crush this t-shirt maker/seller for violating the trademark, and perhaps that what will ultimately happen. Teams and the national leagues seem to have a pretty good record of convincing judges to ignore all the protections of the 1st Amendment and satire, etc. when it comes to their whines.) But it's hilarious that Tebow apparently believes that any reference to Christianity in any context with the Jets is somehow an actionable "attack" on him.

Pretty standard Jesus-nut thin-skin and hyper paranoia. And, of course, another moron on the side that keeps screaming about how frivolous lawsuits are crushing business and the American way immediately resorts to a frivolous lawsuit.

I wouldn't be surprised if a judge orders Tebow to pay the defendant's costs for responding to this bullshit, if the defendant is lucky enough to have the resources to fight back even for a few days.

One needs to see the NY Jets logo before forming an opinion. I'm wondering why the NY Jets aren't the ones suing the tee shirt maker.

Same thing I wondered about a couple of posts up. Makes no damned sense that Tebow is doing this. Doesn't say a lot for his intellect - well, neither does the whole genuflecting shtick, but that's another kettle of fish.

What I'm guessing - and this is just a theory with little foundation - is that some part of Tebow's move to the Jets involved not encouraging a religious fervor as happened in Denver. This may be a move by Tebow to try and put down any impression that he is encouraging this. It won't go anywhere except to try and solidify his relationship with Jets' ownership.
