I have been using Zomig (zolmitriptan) for my migraines since it came out. It is the only drug that actually works. When I went to renew it, Anthem Blue Cross denied it. I called them and tore them a new one, I wrote my representative and two senators. But now I'm faced with $360 for 9 tablets. I can't do it, and the pain can be excruciating and knocks me out, 3-4 times a year.

Does ANYONE know where I can buy it for a lot less? I have easy access to Mexico, but I don't think it has the same name there. I will buy it anywhere in the world and have it shipped here, but I need guidance. AstraZeneca is a Swiss company, but I don't know if it is less expensive in Switzerland (and I pay shipping)...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Santiago

It's available for about a third of that cost in Canada, try using the Internet. Use the word zolmitriptan, not Zomig, when you're looking it up.

Ask your doctor to write a letter. If they state it is all you can use and how it is beneficial, you will probably get it covered...you just need them to document what else was tried and failed...I work in healthcare...give it a try...

plant.

Go to Walgreens and for $20/yr you can get a discount on any prescriptions YOUR health insurance does not cover.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zolmitriptan

Quote:
"AstraZeneca's U.S. patent on Zomig tablets expires on November 14, 2012, with a pediatric exclusivity extension to May 14, 2013.[2] The patent in certain European countries has already expired, and generic drug maker Actavis released a generic version in those countries, starting in March 2012.[3]"

According to the above its patent in certain European c.ountries expired and it is already available in Europe as a generic Hopefully a Generic will come up in America after the Patent expires on November 14, 2012. Once a patent expires, the exclusive ownership of the patented technology is gone and free market competition typically brings a more affordable price.

Good luck with that. Hopefully a low cost Generic is on the way.

I know I'm late to the party, but I literally just saw this thread today. Have you tried getting in touch with AstraZeneca's Patient Assistance Program? Their phone number is 800-424-3727 and there's some info at https://www.rxhope.com/pap/info/paplist ... =companyid

Good luck!
