Exactly. Plus the "smaller government" cliche is suspicious when:

1. Nothing from them when Bush increased the size of government monumentally.
2. Nothing from them about government trying to invade women's uteruses.
3. Nothing from them about the attempt to break unions by tea party governors.

... and many many more.

But, Bill, what you're noticing is EXACTLY how Tea Partiers see themselves amassing power across the board, very much the way religious fundamentalists did it, starting in the early 80's. They ran for these offices, promoting themselves as religious zealots, and their own kind and local churches backed them to the hilt (rules against political involvement notwithstanding). School Board, to city council, to state assembly, to the House, and maybe then the senate - - It takes about 15 years to make the circuit to Congress. That's how it works, and it worked exceptionally well for the religious fundies.

Hey, guess what elected office Michelle Bachmann first held...

Interesting insight. Even with a very high attrition rate, just one getting through the local political gauntlet, as Bachmann has, translates into a public policy nightmare.

Sickuo, thanks for the pics, they prove my point, we are nothing if not a diverse group.Yes we have our nuts just like anti bush rallys had theres, I recall pics of bush with hitler moustache, stuff like that. I have never seen anyone that nutty at two rallys I attended but there was a guy that looked kinda scary, covered with tatts and carrying a pistol on his hip. There was also a little old lady handing out homemade chocolate chip cookies which where best I ever ate! Can't get more diverse than that.

Teaparty exists for one reason, to oppose the black president...this isnt up for debate, it is simply the fact, we arent debating that fact here or in any other adult message board...

What we are debating is how to survive teapartiers ignorance and hate...

Fair point snowmaniac - to a degree. You live in wide stance country where folks post the ten commandments on their property along the highway like Burma Shave signs with the final one daring the ACLU and Liberals to tear them down. Coeur d'Alene has a reputation as the home to bigots, fake religious groups, and anti-govt radicals. Tea Party members in Idaho would almost be main stream centrists compared to the extremists.

Isn't Idaho where that paragon of virtue, Mark Fuhrman, skeedaddled off to?

Yeah, no haters there

You know what? You really ought to post in the bad jokes thread. Your stuff is perfect

I love Idaho. Great state. Beautiful country. Wonderful people. I like working over there. I have no doubt the Tea Partiers that snowmaniac knows are as reasonable as he seems because that is the way most Idahoans are - reasonable, conscientious, courteous, and hard working. But, old school evangelical conservative religiosity permeates the state along with a strong dash of influence from the LDS Church. That is tempered by those that hate The Church in Boise, and further by those that are trying to get away from everything up in the pan handle. If Idaho had a state motto, it would be "Leave Me Alone". Idahoans are mild mannered compared to Montanans though.

Hey, nobody said they all wear the same clothes, or denied that some are old and some are young. Some love silly hats, and some wouldn't be caught dead in them. Being a tea bagger doesn't mean there can't be one whose parents came from Japan, and another who can read every post at the Free Republic in record time, and perhaps even correct all the misspellings and bad punctuation. But, hey, neither the gun-toter with tatts, nor the little old lady who bakes terrific cookies are all that rare among tea baggers.

None of that changes the fact that they are, by and large, ill-informed, morons who won't conduct research unless it involves reading, listening to or viewing sources that confirm precisely what they already believe, and congratulates them for sticking by their incomplete, fear-based and often flatly incorrect version of the facts. Those ARE points they share in common. Oh, and the vast majority of them are white - which is NOT the same as saying every last one is white.

Young, when you say 2 won't admit to being tea party, maybe they are not, maybe you just assume they are, it's an odd post really, doesn't make sense. The response in here so far seems to paint tea party with a broad brush that defines tea party members in bumper sticker phrases.I consider myself tea party and have gone to a couple of events. We are a broad assortment of people with one main belief, gov is too big and too involved in our lives, it waste tax money and comes back for more, thats about it really. All the other things attributed to us as a group are false. Hope I helped you understand us a bit.

This post is satire, right?

Sure hope so!

Thank you for statistics and info on your economic views. I see why so many of you believe as you do. What started out as tea party discussion evolved into economic debate and that’s good because it does boil down to that despite some people trying to make it about race. What we have here is Keynesian vs supply side. I’ll let you guys explain virtues of Keynesian if you care to but I’ll try to give you supply side as I see it. If a company is left alone as much as possible with low if not no taxes and reasonable regulations to protect environment and worker safety, it can thrive grow and prosper. It can compete in a world market which NAFTA gave us for good or ill, it’s there and we must deal with it. When said company prospers it hires lots of people who buy houses, cars, appliances, eat at restaurants, on and on and on. This creates more jobs which will create more jobs and the cycle continues. All these people pay taxes and tax revenues go up proportionally. We may just have to agree to disagree on this issue; both ideas have their advocates and our reasonable economic theory. Thanks for semi polite discussion, I like hearing all sides of issues.
